Brief Bio
My name is Kasim Alam, I’m 30 years old, and I live in Dallas, TX, where I work as a Software Engineer. My passion for motorsports started young—despite not growing up around cars, I was obsessed. I grew up mesmerized by shows like Top Gear and Pimp My Ride, addicted to racing games like Need for Speed Most Wanted, and on long family road trips I'd stare out the window watching my imaginary dirtbike friend hitting the hills beside us.
In high school, I finally got my hands dirty in an auto tech class, which gave me the confidence to later pick up my own projects. My first was an old Yamaha XS 1100 that I found on Craigslist in college—got it running, learned to ride, and from there, I was hooked. My second wasn't until 2020, which is when I picked up my 2001 BMW 330ci, which I was inspired to buy after helping a friend build his drift car. That same friend and I spent the next 3 years helping one another build our cars out of our parent's garages, after which we decided to go in on renting a shop together, and that led to us starting Glow Factor USA, a business selling automotive lighting together.
December 2023 was when I finally got the E46 out for its first drift event, and I've been hitting as many as possible since. I ran about 10 events in 2024 and try to practice weekly at a safe lot near our shop. Since I don't have a truck, I stick to events within a few hours of Dallas, but I’ve still been able to run with groups like Urban Racing, Monday Night Madness, Immersion Motorsport, and CAMS Acre. My goal for 2025 is to drive with better drivers, hit new tracks, and push myself at new events with groups like Lonestar Drift, Full Lock Drift, and KnuckleUp.
Achievements or Notable Experiences
- Built my E46 drift car from the ground up through a mix of research, Youtube tutorials, forum posts, and help from friends.
- Started an automotive business that integrates with our track days, allowing us to drive and vend at the same time
- Hit 10+ drift events in my first year and rapidly progressed through seat time
Favorite Motorsport Memory
My favorite motorsport memory was my first drift competition. I wasn’t ready, but with regular sessions slowed down from too many spin-outs, it was my last chance to get seat time that day. The weather was perfect, and all the drivers lined up on a sloped section of the track, waiting for their turn. I got paired with a driver I later learned was one of the top grassroots drifters in Texas. He smoked me, but it taught me a lot and gave me a great target to chase. The energy among the drivers was also incredible to see as they were way more friendly and familiar with one another than I expected. Overall it was a great experience and I really look forward to competing again!
